RED CARPET STORY: Even the stars had to line up for the annual amfAR Cinema against Aids 2009 charity bash near Cannes at the exclusive Hotel du Cap on Thursday (May 2). No exceptions were made for the likes of Elizabeth Hurley or Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, they just had to queue up like everybody else to get into the event that saw former US president Bill Clinton's saxophone auctioned off as well as a kiss from "Twilight" heart throb Robert Pattinson. The most expensive item auctioned off was the participation in an amfAR fashion week event including first row in Dolce and Gabbana, Versace and Fendi shows. Spotted attending the prestigious event were Paris Hilton and boyfriend Doug Reinhardt, Donatella Versace, Ivana Trump, Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson, 50 Cent, Eve Greene, Lily Cole, Josh Hartnet and others. Annie Lennox, renowned singer, songwriter and former half of the Eurythmics, played at the event, accompanying herself on a grand piano. "I am very passionate about it because I have seen what it is and I was so affected by it" Lennox said about her involvement in the battle against HIV / Aids. "And I thought I always got decent medical care in my life. And people here in the west⦠If you find out that you are HIV positive then you can have access to quite simple treatment, it's not a death sentence! But unfortunately in poorer countries, people cant get access to treatment. And we have to keep the profile up and keep to remind people, even if we talk about swine flu and put it on the front page, that HIV has not gone away and it is not going away, and there is not a cure for it yet." Eagerly awaited were the skills of auctioneer Sharon Stone, who has earned herself a reputation for pulling stunts like this one at the charity auction: "If people don't do it, we make up stuff to sell. Once, Calvin Klein was in the room and I said let's see how much money we can raise to have Calvin Klein show us if he wears his own underwear."
